Texting limits and rules

Free trial text limits, message length, STOP and HELP replies, and why a text might be blocked.

Use this article to see how many texts you can send, what counts toward your free trial, and the carrier rules every text follows.

Free trial texts

A free trial includes 25 texts in total for the whole account. The count doesn't reset. Paid plans have no text limit. You can see how many you have left under SMS left at the bottom of the sidebar.

Counts toward the 25 texts

Doesn't count

Your replies from the inbox

Texts that failed or were blocked

AI auto-replies, including goodbye and hand-over messages

The automatic reply to HELP

Texts your agent sends during a call, like a booking link

The welcome text after you verify your phone

Payment links

Call alerts that Upfirst sends to you

When the 25 texts are used

The reply box shows You used all texts in your trial, and all texting stops. That includes AI auto-replies and texts your agent sends during calls, so callers won't get them.

Click Upgrade plan, or go to Settings > Subscription. Texting works again right away.

Not supported

Important: Upfirst can only see and reply to texts sent to your agent's Upfirst number. If you forward calls from another number, texts to that number aren't forwarded. Payment links follow the same rule: you can only send one to someone who already texted or called your Upfirst number.

How STOP and HELP work

STOP: When a person replies STOP, they're unsubscribed from your number. You and the AI can't text them anymore. If they reply START, they can get texts again.

HELP: When a person replies HELP, we send: [Your business] Support: For help, contact us at [your phone]. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.

How texts are checked

To protect your number from carrier blocks, Upfirst checks every text before it goes out. Spam, scams and restricted topics are blocked. Restricted topics are sex, hate, alcohol, firearms, and tobacco or cannabis.

Troubleshooting

I see "This message couldn't be sent"

The content check blocked your reply. Your draft stays in the box, so you can change it and try again. Blocked texts don't count toward your trial.

I see "This contact asked not to get texts (replied STOP)"

This person unsubscribed. You can't text them unless they reply START.

I see "Texts to this contact's country are not supported"

Texts to some countries aren't supported, so this contact can't receive texts from your Upfirst number.
