The Web Call button is a quick way to preview your receptionist when you don't have your phone handy. It uses the same agent, the same training, and the same voice as a real call. A web call is not a different or lower-quality version of your receptionist.
A web call can't do everything a real phone call can, though. A few features only work when someone dials your actual Upfirst number. So for a complete test, call from your phone.
What's the same
Your agent's training, greeting, and voice are identical on a web call and a real call. If the agent answers a question a certain way on the web, it has that exact same information on the phone. Nothing about your setup changes between the two.
What's different on a web call
Three things don't work on a web call:
Call transfers. The agent can't transfer you to a person or another number.
Text messages. The agent can't send texts during or after the call.
Memory. Your receptionist remembers callers by their phone number and ties that to a contact. A web call doesn't come from a real number, so there's no contact to recognize. Returning-caller touches, like greeting someone by name, won't happen on a web call.
Because these skills don't run on a web call, the conversation can go differently than it will on a real phone call.
Why we recommend testing with a real call
Calling your Upfirst number from your phone is the only way to experience everything your callers will:
Every skill works, including transfers and texts.
Memory is active, so you can test how returning callers are handled.
You hear the true audio quality of a real phone call.
Test calls from your own number are always free. Add your number under Settings → Account so we recognize your test calls and never bill you for them.
"The phone sounds different from the web. Is something wrong?"
Usually not. A real call runs over the phone network, so it can sound different from clean browser audio, and connection quality or background noise plays a part. The agent may also word things a little differently from one call to the next. That's normal. If a transfer or text isn't happening on the phone, check that the rule is set up in your account. It doesn't mean the web version was better.
