How to forward calls from Grasshopper

With Grasshopper, you're able to forward some or all of your calls to Upfirst. Here's how.

Want to forward calls from your Grasshopper number to Upfirst? This article covers how, including how to only forward calls during certain hours.

Before you start, you'll need your Upfirst phone number which can be found at the top-right corner of your Upfirst account.

Once you have your Upfirst phone number, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Grasshopper. Go to Call Management → Extensions.

  2. Edit the extension that you want to sent to Upfirst. Grasshopper sends all calls to the 0 extension by default. You’ll edit that extension so calls go straight to Upfirst.

  3. Click Add call forwarding. Or, if you already have a call forwarding number — click edit.

  4. Under Forward incoming calls to, paste your Upfirst phone number.

  5. Under Call handling, select: Call will connect as soon as you pick up

  6. Under Caller ID, select: Caller’s information If you choose “My Grasshopper number,” all your calls will show up as coming from your Grasshopper number instead of the original caller's number.

  7. Scroll down to Schedule. You can:

    • Forward calls 24/7

    • Create a custom schedule (for example, only after hours)

  8. Under Call forwarding greetings, choose: Ring tone. This ensures callers don’t hear a second greeting before reaching Upfirst.

That’s it—Grasshopper will now send all calls to your Upfirst AI receptionist.

Frequently asked questions about Grasshopper call forwarding

It says calls are coming from my Grasshopper number. How do I get Upfirst to show the caller’s real number?

In Grasshopper, make sure your Caller ID setting is set to Caller’s information instead of My Grasshopper number. If Grasshopper sends your own number as the Caller ID, Upfirst has no way to display the original caller. Updating this setting fixes it immediately.

What if I only want to forward calls outside of business hours?
In your Grasshopper extension settings, scroll to the Schedule section. Choose a custom schedule, then set forwarding to Upfirst only during the hours you want—such as evenings, weekends, or after a specific time. All other calls will follow your normal Grasshopper routing.
